Lee set a new KBO record with his 1,356th career run

Choi sets new KBO career goals record

SSG Landers' Choi Jeong-jeong is congratulated by head coach Kim Won-hyung after scoring three times to set a new KBO League record for most individual goals in a game against the visiting Hanwha Eagles at Hanwha Life Eagles Park in Daejeon on June 6.

SSG Landers slugger Choi Jung (36), who is synonymous with steadiness, has set a new KBO League record for most runs scored.

Choi doubled in the third inning of the visiting Hanwha Eagles at Daejeon's Hanwha Life Eagles Park on Saturday and came home on the next batter's double by Guillermo Heredia.

Choi, who had scored a run against Hanwha the day before to match Doosan Bears manager Lee Seung-yeop's 1,355 career runs, became the first player to reach the milestone in a single day.

It is a record that can only be achieved with the help of teammates, not by hitting a home run.

Choi hasn't missed a year since his professional debut in 2005, making KBO history in his 19th year.

After scoring six runs in his rookie year, Choi led the team in runs scored eight times between 2008 and last year.

Although he never led the league in runs scored, his consistency allowed him to overtake Lee Seung-yup's record.

Choi is also looking to become the KBO's all-time leader in home runs.

With 454 home runs since his debut, he is just 13 shy of Lee's KBO record of 467.

Given his pace of 25 home runs this season, it won't be easy to break the record this year, but next year, the KBO will have a new "home run king".
