U-18 Baseball Team to take on Puerto Rico
The Korean National Under-18 Baseball Team's final group game at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Baseball World Cup turned into a suspenseful game due to inclement weather.
The Korean National Team, led by Lee Young-bok (Chungam-Go), took a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the second inning against Puerto Rico in Group A of the tournament in Taichung, Taiwan, on Saturday, but the game was suspended due to heavy rain in the top of the third inning.
The game was not resumed due to continued rain and was later resumed in the same situation in the top of the third inning.
"The exact schedule has not been set," an official from the Korea Baseball Softball Association told Yonhap, adding, "The team will travel to Taipei, Taiwan, where the Super Round will be held, and is expected to play the remaining games against Puerto Rico there."
South Korea is tied for second place with Puerto Rico (3-1-1) heading into today's match and has clinched at least a third-place finish in pool play to qualify for the Super Round, which is awarded to the third-place finisher in each pool.
The team's final group position will be determined by the outcome of the game against Puerto Rico, which will also determine the pool schedule for the Super Round.
The top three teams in Group A and Group B will play a Super Round robin, with the combined record determining the finalists and the third- and fourth-place finishers.
In Group B, No. 1 USA (4-1), No. 2 Japan (4-1) and No. 3 Netherlands (4-1) have qualified for the Super Round. sportstotomen.com
