Table tennis fails in gold hunt in men's and women's team events, singles and doubles set for revenge

Men's silver, women settle for bronze
Medal chase begins with mixed doubles on the 27th

South Korea's table tennis team failed to win gold in the men's and women's team events at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games. The players will now try for gold in the singles and doubles events.

The Korean men's table tennis team faced off against top-ranked China in the men's team final at the Hangzhou Gongsu Canal Sports Park Gymnasium on 26 June (KST), but fell short with a 0-3 match score.

China fielded Wang Chuqin, Fan Jiandong and Ma Long, the current International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) world number two, one and three respectively. The Korean trio of Lim Jong-hoon (26-Korea Exchange), Ahn Jae-hyun (23-Korea Exchange) and Park Kang-hyun (27-Korea Water Resources Corporation) tried their best but fell to their knees.

This was China's eighth consecutive men's table tennis team title at the Asian Games. South Korea, on the other hand, settled for their eighth consecutive silver medal. All eight finals were between China and South Korea, and China won them all.

The women's table tennis team also finished with a bronze medal in the women's team event. The Korean women's table tennis team, coached by Oh Kwang-heon, lost to Japan 1-3 in the semi-finals of the women's team event on 25 May.

The Korean women's team finished with a bronze medal in the team event. This is the second consecutive bronze medal for the team after the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games. The Korean women's team was looking to reach the final for the first time in 33 years since the 1990 Beijing Games.

Jeon Jeon-hee defeated Miu Hirano in two games, but Shin Yubin lost games one and four, and Seo Hyo-won lost three games.

With both the men's and women's team competitions concluded, Korea will begin the individual competitions on the 27th.

The individual competition is a round of 64 tournament. The mixed doubles final will be played on the 30th. Next month, the men's doubles and women's singles finals will be held on the 1st and the women's doubles and men's singles finals on the 2nd.

Jang Woo-jin and Lim Jong-hoon will compete in the men's singles and Shin Yubin and Seo Hyo-won in the women's singles.

The men's doubles pairs are Jang Woo-jin and Lim Jong-hoon, and Ahn Jae-hyun and Park Kang-hyun. The women's doubles pairs are Shin Yoo-bin-Jeon Jeon-hee and Yang Ha-eun-Eun-hye.

The mixed doubles pairs will be Lim Jong-hoon-Shin Yubin and Jang Woo-jin-Jeon Hee.

At the previous edition, Jakarta-Palembang 2018, Lee Sang-soo won bronze in the men's singles and Jeon Jeon-hee won bronze in the women's singles. The men's and women's doubles events were abolished for the 2018 Games, but have been reinstated. sportstotomen.com
