Korean men's handball, aiming to advance to the Olympic finals for the first time in 12 years, won two consecutive games in the Asian regional qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Korea, led by coach Hollando Freitas (Portugal), won 29-27, by 2 points, in the second match of Group A against Saudi Arabia held in Doha, Qatar, on the 19th.
Korea, which defeated Saudi Arabia following the United Arab Emirates (UAE), cruised to two consecutive wins, increasing its chances of advancing to the semifinals. The second place in the group will advance to the semifinals.
Dong-Hyeon Jang (SK) scored the most goals with 7. Korea will play the third game against India at 7 p.m. on the 21st.
A total of 11 countries must win this competition to secure a direct ticket to the Olympic finals.
The runner-up team will be given the right to participate in the world qualifiers, which are scheduled for March next year.
Korea competes with Qatar, China, India, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Korea has not advanced to the Olympic finals since the 2012 London Olympics.
In the most recent 2020 Tokyo Olympics regional qualifiers, they ranked 2nd in Asia and 3rd in the world qualifiers, failing to advance to the finals.
