Hwang Hee-chan and Son Heung-min set to face off in Korean derby ahead of A-match call-ups

Hwang aims for league offensive points for seventh straight game
Son Heung-min seeks double-digit league points in eight straight games

Jürgen Klinsmann's South Korean men's national soccer team is set to kick off its November A fixtures with a Korean derby in the English Premier League (EPL). Wolverhampton ace Hwang Hee-chan and Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min will go head-to-head.

The two teams will play the 12th round of the 2023-2024 EPL at the Molineux Stadium in England on Nov. 11 at 9:30 p.m. Wolverhampton, currently 14th in the league, will host second-place Tottenham at home as they look to leapfrog into the top half of the table. Tottenham will be looking to bounce back from their first league loss to Chelsea on July 7.

A key resource for both teams is their strikers. For Wolverhampton, it's Hwang Hee-chan, and for Tottenham, it's captain Son Heung-min.

Hwang is currently the team's top scorer with six goals in 11 league games. If you look at the league as a whole, he's tied for sixth in the league in goals, alongside the likes of Alexandre Lacazette (Newcastle) and Brian Mbemo (Brentford).

Hwang Hee-chan, in particular, has been on a tear, recording an attacking point in six consecutive games before a 1-2 loss to Sheffield United on May 5.

Son Heung-min is even higher on the list than Hwang. With eight goals in 11 games, he is tied for second in the league with Mohamed Salah (Liverpool). He is also the captain of the team and shows great leadership, leading not only the offense but the entire team.

As with many Korean derbies in Europe so far, the in-form matchup has garnered a lot of attention, but both teams are not at full strength.

Hwang Hee-chan will be without the services of Pedro Neto, who has been a key part of Wolverhampton's attack this season. He felt ill against Newcastle United (2-2 draw) on March 28 and missed the game against Sheffield Wednesday. There's a chance he won't be able to play against Tottenham.

Son Heung-min's situation is even worse. Midfielder James Maddison, who has been filling the void left by striker Harry Kane's departure to Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga, is doubtful after suffering an injury against Chelsea.

Central defender Micky van der Penn, who was injured in the Chelsea game, has also been confirmed as a long-term injury, while Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie will miss the Wolverhampton game after being sent off.

Hwang Hee-chan and Son Heung-min will be looking to set new records against the odds. Hwang has now scored an attacking point in six consecutive league games, and if he does so against Tottenham, he will tie Henri Camara's record of seven in a row set in 2004.

Son Heung-min will look to score double-digit league goals for the eighth consecutive season. Only six players in EPL history have scored in double figures in eight or more consecutive seasons: Sadio Mane, Thierry Henry (8+ seasons), Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero (9+ seasons), Frank Lampard (10), and Wayne Rooney (11). If Son Heung-min scores more than two goals against Wolverhampton, he will join Mane and Henri in that company. sportstotomen
