Pedi? Noh Si-hwan? This season's MVP is KBO Awards Ceremony on the 27th
Awards for first place in each category for the 2023 season MVP/Rookie Award Announcement
The ‘best star’ who shone in the 2023 season will be revealed.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) announced on the 23rd, “The ‘2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO Awards Ceremony’ will be held at the Westin Chosun Grand Ballroom in Seoul at 2 p.m. on the 27th.”
At this awards ceremony, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Rookie Award winners who performed the best in the 2023 season will be announced. The inaugural winners of this year's newly established KBO Defense Award will also be presented. Awards will also be given to the top players and excellent referees in each individual category in the KBO League and Futures (Second Division) League.
The MVP and Rookie Award winners were determined through advance online voting by reporters from media outlets affiliated with the Korea Baseball Writers' Association and reporters in charge of each regional media after the end of the regular season.
A total of 16 players were registered as candidates for MVP, including the top players in each individual category and players selected by the Korea Baseball Writers Association.
The names that stand out the most are NC Dinos' Eric Peddie and Hanwha Eagles' Noh Si-hwan.
Peddie pitched in 30 games this year and recorded 20 wins, 6 losses, and an ERA of 2.00. He achieved the pitcher triple crown by sweeping most wins, earned run average, and strikeouts (209), and set a record of 20 wins and 200 strikeouts in a single season.
Noh Si-hwan won the home run title and RBI title with a batting average of 0.298, 31 home runs, and 101 RBIs in 131 games.
In addition to Pedi and Noh Si-hwan, SSG Landers Choi Jeong, Seo Jin-yong, Kiwoom Heroes Ariel Jurado and Kim Hye-seong, LG Twins Austin Dean and Hong Chang-ki, KT Wiz Go Young-pyo, Park Young-hyun, William Cuevas, NC Son A-seop, Samsung Lions David Buchanan and Koo Ja-wook, Doosan Bears Raul Alcantara, Su-bin Jeong was nominated for MVP.
Ten candidates for the Rookie Award were selected, including Hanwha's Moon Dong-ju and Moon Hyun-bin, KIA Tigers' Yoon Young-cheol and Choi Ji-min, Kiwoom's Kim Dong-heon and Lee Joo-hyung, Lotte's Kim Min-seok and Yoon Dong-hee, Doosan's Kim Dong-ju, and LG's Yoo Young-chan.
The KBO Defense Award, which was introduced for the first time this year, selected a total of 9 inaugural winners, 1 from each position. The winner of the Defense Award will receive a trophy and a prize of 2 million won.
The first-place player and excellent referee in each KBO League division will be awarded a trophy and a prize of 3 million won, and the first-place player in each Futures League division will be awarded a trophy and a prize of 1 million won.
