KLPGA Cannot Reach a Conclusion on Disciplinary Reduction for Yoon Ina Re-discussion Next Year





The Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) discussed a proposal to reduce the disciplinary action of Yoon Na-na, who caused controversy due to her 'wrong ball play', but was unable to reach a conclusion.

KLPGA held the 10th KLPGA Board of Directors meeting in 2023 on the 14th. On this day, the Board of Directors discussed Yoon Ina's disciplinary reduction case as an agenda item, but no conclusion was reached and it was decided to discuss it at the next Board of Directors meeting.

KLPGA explained, “As a result of in-depth discussion, it was decided to re-discuss the ‘Request for Disciplinary Reduction of Regular Member Yoon Ina’ at the next Board of Directors meeting to be held in early 2024.”

Yoon Ina is a promising player who has garnered attention for her outstanding skills since her amateur days. In 2022, she debuted on the KLPGA regular tour, capturing the attention of golf fans with her tremendous long shots, and in July of that year, she lifted the trophy for the Ever Collagen Queen's Crown.

However, Yoon Ina played with a ball other than her own during the first round of the Korea Women's Open in June last year. She also caused controversy by belatedly reporting it even though she knew she had been playing 'misleading'. The Korea Golf Association (KGA), which organizes the Korea Women's Open, imposed a severe disciplinary action on Yoon Na, including a three-year suspension from participating in KGA competitions, and the KLPGA also imposed a three-year suspension from participating in all competitions organized or hosted by the KLPGA.

Yoon Ina accepted her suspension without seeking a retrial, and she continued her career this year on the U.S. Minor League Golf Tour. She performs community service work, and she even donates all of her winnings from competitions in the US. Among these, the Korea Golf Association reduced the disciplinary action against Yoon Ina last September from 3 years to 1 year and 6 months, and banned her from doing community service until February 18 next year, when her disciplinary action ends. imposed 50 hours.

However, despite the Korean Golf Association's reduction of her disciplinary action, it is still difficult for Yoon Ina to pursue her playing career in Korea. Of the 30 or so tournaments on the KLPGA tour held in one season, the Korea Women's Open is the only one hosted by the Korea Golf Association, and all other tournaments are hosted by the KLPGA. In order for Yoon Ina to participate in her tour activities in Korea, a reduction in disciplinary action from the KLPGA was necessary.

Accordingly, she asked the KLPGA to reduce her disciplinary action, and as it became known that this issue was put on the board of directors' agenda, golf fans' attention focused. Some argued that it was time to forgive her as she showed signs of reflection, but others argued that it was not appropriate to reduce her disciplinary action since she had not yet completed half of her disciplinary period.

However, no conclusion was reached at the board meeting that day. Whether or not her disciplinary action will be reduced will likely be decided at the next board meeting next year.
