Men's Volleyball OKFinancials Reaches Champs After 8 Years

OK Financial Group's men's professional volleyball team is in full bloom after a year of hard work. The team is headed to the championship game after eight years.

OK Financial Group, the third-ranked team in the regular season, defeated league runner-up Woori Card 3-0 (25-15 25-15 25-15 25-19) in three sets in one hour and 21 minutes in the second round of the 2023-2024 V League Postseason Playoffs (PO-3 best-of-three) at Sangryoksu Gymnasium in Ansan on May 25.

OK Financial Group rattled off 10 straight points at 13-13 in the first set to set the tone. From there, his teammates added to the scoring and Bayar Saihan Bassu (26, Mongolia, registered name Bayar Saihan) continued to serve. His 10 consecutive serves broke the men's postseason record for the longest streak in history. He surpassed the previous record of eight consecutive postseason serves held by Korean Air's Han Han (2016-2017 Championship), Lim Dong-hyuk (2018-2019 Championship) and Woori Card's Alex (2020-2021 Championship). "Today, I had a good feeling from the first serve," said Bayarsaihan, who finished with 13 points, the most for either team.

OK Financial Group, which defeated Hyundai Capital 3-2 in the first round of the PO (Jangchung) on March 23 after a semi-PO, has now won three straight Spring Volleyball matches. It will now face league leader Korean Air in the final stage, the championship match. It's been eight years since OK Financial Group reached the championship game since the 2015-2016 season (when they won the title), and head coach Masashi Ogino (54, Japan), who was appointed in May last year, has been tasting the best since his first season in charge. "I will emphasize to the players to be grateful to be able to play on this stage and to play the volleyball we have been playing all year," Ogino said.

OK Financial Group will face Incheon on Nov. 29 in the first leg of the championship match. Korean Air has dominated the last three seasons, winning the combined title (league championship and championship game). Korean Air head coach Tomi Tilikainen (37, Finland) traveled to Ansan to watch the match and analyze the opposition.
